Gage Hovey, son of Tammy and Trav Hovey won a bike at the Races at the Upper Iowa Speedway on June 13, but Gage told his parents, “I already have a bike, so I want to donate it to a kid in need”. Gage’s parents collected names on Facebook for a drawing for that bike. Jana Albers, social worker at the Child Health Specialty Clinic, saw the post on Facebook and contacted Gage’s parents to let them know she has several children they work with at their clinic whose families cannot afford a bike but she cannot share their names due to HIPPA/confidentiality laws. Gage had such an overwhelming response to his offer to donate the bike he won, that people started donating money so Gage could give more bikes away.
Gage’s parents contacted Jana to let her know they now had 3 more brand new bikes to donate and they wanted to donate them to children served by the CHSC clinic. Gage and his family met Jana and her co-worker, Tracy Meirick in front of their clinic to give the bikes to them and Gage wanted to have a picture taken with the clinic staff.
